Foetal MRI: advances in the evaluation of the developing foetus
نویسنده
چکیده
MRI assessment of the foetus has been around for 25 years although in routine practice only for the last few years. The tackling of the main challenge of foetal movement was paramount and with this aside the use of the technique has grown exponentially. Arguments related to safety and availability are often used against its routine implementation. However, for a number of specific indications, foetal MRI has been shown to be far better than ultrasound (U/S) and to make a difference in patient management. The role of the modality should be as a problem solver in foetal assessment. Samuel Stafrace MRCP (UK), FRCR Children’s University Hospital Dublin, Ireland Email: [email protected]

Intra-voxel incoherent motion MRI of the living human foetus: technique and test–retest repeatability
Background: Our purpose was to test the within-subject (test–retest) reproducibility of the perfusion fraction, diffusion coefficient, and pseudo-diffusion coefficient measurements in various foetus organs and in the placenta based on the intra-voxel incoherent motion (IVIM) principle. Methods: In utero diffusion-weighted IVIM magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) was performed in 15 pregnant women ...
متن کاملتاثیر شمارش حرکات جنین توسط مادر بر میزان دلبستگی مادر- جنین در مادران با اولین بارداری
Background and purpose: Maternal-foetal attachment (MFÂ) is a term which describes the relationship between a pregnant women and her foetus. Mothers with high MFÂ show more confidence in their new role and a better postpartum adjustment. The present study was conducted to determine the effect of counting foetal movement on maternal-foetal attachment. Materials and methods: This interventio...

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder with systemic complications. Children of diabetic mothers are at risk of many disorders such as major and minor vascular injuries, retinopathy, and atherosclerosis. The present study aimed to investigate the effects of maternal diabetes on changes in choroid plexus volume and capillaries length in 15.5 day foetus. Methods: in this experi...
متن کاملSevere Gastrooesophageal Reflux Disease Associated with Foetal Alcohol Syndrome
Prenatal alcohol exposure may have adverse effects on the developing foetus resulting in significant growth restriction, characteristic craniofacial features, and central nervous system dysfunction. The toxic effects of alcohol on the developing brain are well recognised. However, little is known about the effects of alcohol on the developing gastrointestinal tract or their mechanism. There are...
متن کاملBiochemical Profile of Ovine Amniotic and Allantoic Fluids
Foetal fluids are important in preventing mechanical shock to the developing foetus during entire gestation. Amniotic and allantoic fluids are actively involved in constant exchange of biochemical substance between foetus and maternal circulation. Hence the knowledge regarding changes in the composition of the foetal fluid is important for understanding foetal metabolism and diagnosis of pathol...
